NDC Demands Gbajabiamila’s Removal Over Alleged PFIPC Corruption Scandal
By Our Correspondent
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to an alleged corruption scandal involving the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The opposition party said Gbajabiamila should step aside to allow for what it described as a full and impartial investigation into claims made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who reportedly presented himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC.
In a statement issued on Friday by NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party expressed concern over allegations that the PFIPC, which the Presidency has reportedly disowned, received budgetary allocations in the 2026 Appropriation Act and operated several accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The party questioned how an agency allegedly unknown to the Presidency could have opened a domiciliary account, a Pounds Sterling account and a Treasury Single Account (TSA) at the apex bank.
According to the NDC, the development raises serious questions about transparency, accountability and due process within the administration.
The party also queried reports that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff positions for the agency, despite claims that the PFIPC does not officially exist.
It further cited allegations by Adeyemi that the Chief of Staff demanded 48 per cent of the agency’s take-off grant, estimated at N27.4 billion, and that he allegedly secured his appointment through the payment of N600 million, part of which was purportedly channelled through intermediaries.
The NDC described the allegations as grave and urged relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
The party also expressed concern over the death of one Mr. Babatunde Tanimola, described as an intermediary in the matter, who reportedly died in a fire incident at a hotel in Abuja in October 2025.
It further referenced claims by Adeyemi that he had survived multiple assassination attempts, including an alleged attack along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
Consequently, the NDC demanded the constitution of an independent investigative panel to examine all aspects of the controversy, including the alleged operations of the PFIPC, budgetary allocations, account openings, staff approvals and financial transactions linked to the matter.
The party also called for investigations into the death of Tanimola and the alleged attacks on Adeyemi.
Among other demands, the NDC urged anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Nigeria Police Force, to commence investigations without delay.
It also called for the questioning of relevant officials of the CBN, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The party maintained that Nigerians deserve full disclosure of the facts surrounding the allegations and insisted that anyone found culpable, regardless of status, should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
End.
