The Nigeria Cancer Society (NCS) has appointed Dr. Abubakar Bala Muhammad, a Consultant Surgeon and Surgical Oncologist, popularly known as Dr. Bala Prof., as the Chairman of its Kano State Branch.
The appointment was made on September 28, 2026, under the leadership of the National President of the Nigeria Cancer Society, Professor Abidemi Omonisi.
Dr. Abubakar Bala is expected to lead the Kano State Branch in strengthening cancer awareness, prevention, early detection, advocacy, patient support and collaboration with healthcare professionals and other relevant stakeholders.
His appointment is also expected to contribute to the Society’s efforts to improve cancer control and care across Kano State through increased public awareness and stronger engagement with patients, medical professionals and communities.
The development marks a significant step in strengthening cancer advocacy and awareness initiatives in Kano State, particularly efforts aimed at promoting early detection and improving access to appropriate cancer care.
