Leverage On Data Analytics To Map Out Urban Crime, IGP Direct Kano Police
From Muhammad Kabir, Kano
The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed Kano Command of the Force to fully leverage on data analytics, digital forensics, and centralized information frameworks to map out urban crime hotspots and track illicit financial flows that sustain gang activities.
The IGP who was speaking through the DIG in Charge of Northwest, Sulaiman M. Abdul, while meeting with officers in Kano, Wednesday, said, the Compliance with the Suspects’ Information Capturing Process within the Nigeria Police Force Incidents and Crime Database (NPF-ICD) must be enforced across all divisions and tactical offices without exception to fully track down Criminals wherever they are.
He said this will enable the Police to build comprehensive criminal histories, trace syndicates, and systematically isolate repeat offenders.
“Concurrently, you must strictly enforce the national directive against unregistered or concealed vehicle number plates, which criminal elements use to maintain anonymity during urban operations. Because urban security relies heavily on public cooperation, your town hall engagements with market associations, youth organizations, religious bodies, and traditional institutions must be institutionalized on a monthly basis.”
He added that, “let me be unequivocally clear: the remodelling of state-level tactical units into the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) represents a structural shift toward standard rules of engagement, civilian oversight, and intelligence-justified deployments.
The IGP hints that the administration demands absolute professional discipline and has zero tolerance for personnel high-handedness, corruption, or extortion, which alienate the public. Cultivate public trust by respecting human rights, protect your personnel through sound welfare management, and ensure that Kano remains an open, safe, and thriving economic environment for all.
Presenting a paper with a theme, “Asymmetric Threat Preemption, Urban Gang Management, and Securing Commercial Hubs, the IGP said he had  established six core administrative pillars that form the unyielding foundation of the modern internal security blueprint:
Intelligence-Led and Technology-Driven Policing,  Inter-Agency Collaboration and Regional Synergy, and Operational Standardization and Specialization, explaining that the strategy will enhance policing and curb criminality everywhere.
He said the IGP’s administration policy thrust dictates that modern urban policing cannot be achieved through physical presence alone; it must be powered by timely, accurate, and actionable information.
The State Police Commissioner, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the Command over time they have successfully arrested and prosecuted over 1000 Criminal’s.
He added that they have drastically reduced criminal activities including phone snatching, Daba fights, Thuggery and other violence crimes in the State.
