Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has flagged off the construction of two major road projects at Dukku–Tarasa in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area and Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini in Argungu Local Government Area.
The projects are part of renewed efforts to improve rural connectivity and stimulate economic activities across the state.
The flag-off ceremonies were held on Sunday and attended by community leaders, government officials and residents of the benefiting communities.
The Dukku–Tarasa road, which covers two kilometres, is expected to be completed within six months, while the 32-kilometre Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini road in Argungu Local Government Area has a 12-month completion period.
Speaking at the ceremonies, Governor Idris said the projects were in fulfilment of his campaign promises and reflect his administration’s determination to improve road infrastructure, ease transportation challenges and connect rural communities to urban centres and economic opportunities.
He reiterated his commitment to executing projects that have direct impact on the lives of the people, stressing that rural communities would continue to receive attention under his administration.
“As promised, we will continue to execute projects that have a direct impact on the lives of our people.
“In line with the importance we attach to our rural communities, I am using this opportunity to officially flag off the construction of the road linking Birnin Lafiya to Gulma and Natsini.
“The people of this area have been experiencing difficulties due to the poor condition of the road. We have, therefore, decided to construct it to ease transportation and improve the lives of the people.
“By the grace of God, the construction of this road will commence as we fulfil our commitment to improving infrastructure in our rural communities,” the Governor said.
Governor Idris added that improved road infrastructure would enhance movement of people and goods, facilitate transportation of agricultural produce and strengthen commercial activities among neighbouring communities.
Residents of the benefiting communities commended the Governor for initiating the projects, expressing optimism that upon completion, the roads would ease transportation difficulties, improve access to essential services and create better opportunities for farmers, traders and other residents.
The projects underscore the administration’s commitment to extending infrastructure development beyond major urban centres and improving connectivity for communities across Kebbi State.
