From Muhammad Kabir, Kano
The Governor of the Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has assured the safety of journalists working in the state and the safety of all residents and visitors of the State, Before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
Speaking while receiving the Members of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, Governor Yusuf, said despite the little or the spots of crisis the State is facing in the border and local governments, his Government is committed to providing more welfare, more respect, more coordination to the media industry and public relations so that their work can be easy, can be simple and can be done in a professional manner.
Governor Yusuf who was represented by his Director General Media, Sunday, said, “you may recalled last year at the Correspondence Chapel event, I have informed the gathering that his excellency has spent over 200 million Naira in 2025 as a voice player and guest show to various categories of the media and PR practitioners within and outside the state.”
” And leaders, I am happy to also report to you that in this 2026, under my office, we have spent over 150 million Naira as a welfare to different categories of media and public relations professionals, some directly, some indirectly, some openly, some behind the scenes. “
He said this goes across provision of mobility, provision of watching tools, provision of shelter, provision of medical assistance to various members of this profession.
Speaking a fellow of the Institute, Professor Sule Ya’u Sule, said the convergence of all practitioners of public relations is coming up in Abuja from November 15th to 21.
And as part of activities to create awareness about this forum, Kano hosted chapter and other chapters in the country decided to stage what is called Walkout. Meaning, to track, to sensitize Nigerians and Kano people that this event is coming up in November.
If you may recall, in our studies in public relations, we come up with a definition of public relations that was coined in Mexico in 1978. It has remained a reference point for all students of public relations.”
“That was the first time such a forum was staged in 1978 in Mexico City. So now, this forum is coming to Abuja so that we can have another declaration. Since 1978, the definition of public relations has not been reviewed.”
Professor Sule said, many things have happened. And therefore, now we are meeting in Abuja so that we can look at some of the emerging trends in the profession and incorporate them in the definition of public relations. So this is the purpose of the forum coming up in Abuja by the grace of God in November 2026.”
