The Kano State Committee on Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) has called on Jumu’ah Imams across the state to play a more active role in educating the public on the importance of voter registration and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The appeal was made during an engagement with Jumu’ah mosque leaders by the Chairman of the Committee’s Clerics Engagement Subcommittee, Sheikh Ibrahim Abubakar Tofa, who emphasized the influential role religious leaders play in shaping public opinion and mobilizing communities.
According to Sheikh Tofa, Imams occupy a strategic position in society and can significantly contribute to increasing public participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise through their sermons and community outreach efforts.
“Religious leaders remain trusted voices within their communities. Their support is crucial in encouraging eligible citizens to register and obtain their voter cards ahead of future elections,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the State Committee Chairman and Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim stressed the importance of involving religious institutions in the voter awareness campaign.
He noted that Jumu’ah Imams have a unique opportunity to enlighten worshippers on the significance of possessing a voter card, describing it as a vital instrument for democratic participation and good governance.
Comrade Abbas Ibrahim further urged residents of Kano State, particularly youths and women, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise and ensure they are properly registered to vote.
He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to expanding voter education efforts across the state, with the aim of increasing public awareness and encouraging greater participation in the electoral process.
The committee expressed confidence that the collaboration with religious leaders would help boost voter turnout and strengthen democratic engagement among citizens in Kano State.
