The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has called for the re-election of Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, saying continuity in governance is key to consolidating development gains.
Zulum expressed confidence that Kebbi would witness “phenomenal growth” if Governor Idris is re-elected for a second term.
He commended his leadership qualities, integrity and compassionate disposition.
He made the remarks yesterday when the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, led a delegation of the state’s media team on a courtesy visit to him at the Government House, Maiduguri.
Prof. Zulum described Governor Idris as a straightforward, generous and upright leader whose commitment to his promises has earned him the respect and love of the people of Kebbi State.
“Continuity is very important; otherwise, there will be distractions, and things will not move forward,” he said.
He recalled meeting Governor Idris before the 2023 governorship election and developing a close friendship with him after the election.
He added that Governor Idris’s antecedents in unionism and personal qualities had strengthened their relationship.
Zulum also recalled serving as _wali_ at the wedding of Governor Idris’s daughter in Kebbi, describing the gesture as humbling.
He described the Kebbi Governor as a hardworking leader with the tenacity and capacity to reposition the state.
On the prospects of a second term, Zulum said: “Development cannot happen in a day. He is a first-term governor, and it is my sincere hope that he will do better than his first term if given the second chance.”
He commended the Kebbi Government’s achievements, particularly in the area of security, noting that the security situation in the state had improved. He expressed confidence that Governor Idris has the commitment and zeal to further develop Kebbi if given another mandate.
The Borno Governor stressed the importance of working with a leader whose character, capacity and commitment are already known, expressing optimism that Governor Idris would perform even better in his second term.
The Kebbi media delegation included the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yahaya Sarki; Special Adviser on New Media, Alhaji Aliyu Bandado Argungu; Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Jombali; Special Adviser on Strategic Communication, Alhaji Abubakar Idris Zuru; and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris.
