Kano LP Deputy Governorship Candidate Abbas Ibrahim Condoles With NLC President Over Ugboaja’s Death

By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Labour Party(LP) Deputy Governorship Candidate in Kano State, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, has commiserated with the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, over the death of the Congress Secretary-General, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja.

Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, in a condolence message dated August 27, 2026, described Ugboaja’s death as a great loss to the NLC, the Nigerian labour movement and the struggle for social justice and workers’ rights.

He said the late NLC Secretary-General had left behind a legacy that would be difficult to replace, particularly through his contributions to the labour movement and the use of his legal expertise in advancing the cause of workers.

Comrade Ibrahim recalled an interaction with Ugboaja during one of the NLC Harmattan Schools, where, he said, the late labour leader lifted the spirits of participants through his inspiring and encouraging words.

The LP Deputy Governorship candidate said although Ugboaja was no longer physically present, “he has left treasured memories” through his commitment, courage and dedication to the struggle for social justice and workers’ rights.

The former Assistant Secretary of the NLC, Kano State Council, urged Ajaero and the entire labour family to take heart over the painful loss.

He also extended his condolences to the NLC leadership, members, the deceased’s family, colleagues and associates, while praying Almighty Allah to grant the departed eternal rest and give the labour movement the strength to bear the loss.

Comrade Ibrahim, who is also a former Chairman of the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), described Ugboaja’s passing as a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.
