Palpable Fear Grieves Kano Residents As Sanusi, Bayero Plans Parallel Durbar Processions

From Muhammad Kabir, Kano
There is palpable tension among Kano Residents as two rival claimants to the Kano Emirate throne, Dr Muhammadu Sanusi ii and the 16th Emir of Kano and Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero the 15th Emir of Kano, planned to conduct separate Hawan Daushe processions on Thursday, raising fears of possible clashes, injuries, and destruction of property.

Alhaji  Abubakar Aminu Daneji, the AAC candidate for Kano Municipal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has urged residents, particularly his supporters, to avoid participating in the planned traditional horse processions expected to be led by  Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and  Muhammadu Sanusi II.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Daneji said the appeal was aimed at protecting lives and property amid tension surrounding reports that both camps intended to hold separate processions along similar routes within Kano metropolis.
He called on residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and avoid any action capable of escalating tensions during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The warning comes as anxiety grows in communities such as Mandawari, Galadanci, Kwanar Diso and neighbouring areas, where residents fear that overlapping routes could heighten the risk of confrontation.
Several residents and observers have appealed to security agencies to take urgent preventive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Since the beginning of the Kano Emirate dispute, security authorities had in previous years suspended Sallah durbar activities involving both camps to prevent possible clashes.
However, as of the time of filing this report, neither the Kano State Government nor security agencies had publicly announced restrictions on this year’s planned Hawan Daushe processions.
