NBA, Federal Road Safety Deepens Relationship For Safeguarding Rules Of Law

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kano Branch, have pledged to deepen collaboration in the interest of humanity.
At a joint press briefing following a meeting between the two bodies, Corps Commander Olusola Asonibare, Legal Adviser to the FRSC, explained that the engagement was aimed at fostering synergy, mutual understanding, and capacity building. “Both organisations are working for humanity. The NBA has agreed to provide training programs for our officers in Kano Command, and we will soon roll out events to that effect,” she said.
Asonibare noted that while the recent court judgment restraining FRSC officers from operating on certain roads was discussed, it was not the primary reason for convening the meeting.
She stressed that the Corps remains committed to its statutory mandate of enforcing traffic laws to prevent road crashes and safeguard lives and property.
Idris Muhammad-Lawal, the Kano Sector Commander, expressed appreciation to members of the Kano Bar for their visit and the constructive engagement.
He explained that the Corps remains committed to respecting court judgments and carrying out its duties strictly within the framework of the law.
He further explained that the primary mandate of the FRSC is to enforce traffic regulations, while also stressing the need to sensitize the public on the dangers of reckless and dangerous driving.
Muhammad-Lawal further noted that the Corps’ responsibilities extend beyond law enforcement to include disaster response, whether related to road accidents, water incidents, or other emergencies.
NBA Kano Chairman, Sani Ammani, who attended with other branch members, confirmed that the meeting was constructive. “We had a lengthy discussion with FRSC management. We affirmed that the Corps will abide by the court’s decision, and we will work together to ensure the rule of law is respected,” he stated.
When asked about a viral video involving a Kano lawyer commenting on the judgment, Ammani declined to respond, saying he had not seen the clip.
He noted instead that the focus was on building a stronger working relationship with the FRSC.
Both organisations reiterated their shared commitment to humanity, with the NBA pledging legal support and training, and the FRSC assuring continued adherence to its founding Act in the discharge of its duties.
