Lacks Of National, State Assemblies Functional Oversight Duties Brings About Financial Crimes, Senator Kawu Sumaila

The Senator representing Kano South Senatorial Zone, Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila has said that lack of Functional Oversight Duties by the Nation Legislative Chambers, have effectively given rooms to Corruption and crippled Financial prudent management in the Country.
Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila who was presenting his scorecard during a Kano NUJ Correspondents Chapel organized forum in conjunction with the office the Senator, highlighted his achievements since he came to office, in 2023, mentioning his major contributions to various sectors.
Speaking Sunday in Kano, Senator Kawu, hints that failure of a functional Oversight Functions as a results of lacks of enough Funds for the Legislature carried out the duties effectively, have kept offices like EFCC, ICPC busy tracing lots of corrupt cases in the ministries and parastatals.
In the same vein, Kawu accused the Nigeria Media of failure to track down allocations and spendings by Governments, living great vacuum in the Financial prudent management of the Nation.
“If the Media and the National Assembly including States Assembly are doing their Jobs functionally, I’m telling you, one wouldn’t have to wait for EFCC ICPC and other financial regulator’s to track down financial misappropriation or otherwise”.
However the Senator explained that the major challenge he had faced as a legislator is the lack of functional oversight in the system.
He added that the National Assembly would function better when the aspect of oversight functions perfectly.
More so, he blamed the media for not engaging in investigative reporting and holding politicians to account based on what they have promised on their agenda.
He called on the local radio houses, in Kano in particular, to live up to their professional standards and to avoid engaging in character assassination and slander against individuals for political purposes.
The Senator who represents sixteen local government areas of Kano state, stated that he had had made promises to the people that led to his election and wants the people to come out and inspect to prove what he had achieved since 2023.
“On the 10th of October 2022, I stood before the good people of Kano South Senatorial district at the Central Hotel, I made a solemn commitment and outlined my clear agenda of legislative interest centered on social justice.
“This is with a strong focus on education, health, water for irrigation and agriculture.
“I listened to the voice of the voiceless. Today is the 4th of October, 2026, I am back before you again, just six days to the same date I made the promises” he stated.
He called on everyone especially the media confirm his statistics as regards his role in security provision, human development, agriculture, health delivery as well as bills that have seen the light of the day.
With more than 103 projects the Senator had achieved, he called on Nigerians to appreciate the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what have been delivered
