As Over 14 Million People’s Displaced From Sudan Conflicts, Amnesty International Calls For Immediate Ceasefire

The Amnesty International, has said that since fighting began in Sudan in 2023, tens of thousands of people have been killed and nearly 14 million people have been displaced, while over 3100 Nigerians Repatriates.
Speaking while making a presentation of Amnesty International’s latest report on the situation in Sudan, the Chairman Board of Directors of the Amnesty International, Auwal Musa Rafsamjani who was represented by the Country Director, Isa Sunusi, Monday, in Kano, said an urgent strong actions need to be taking to stop the Conflicts.
He said, “We all know what is going on in Sudan – a country of great cultural, historical and political importance to Africa and Nigeria. We share historical ties as Africans. In difficult times we must look out for each other.”
He regrettably notes that, ” the report we are presenting today was launched on 1 July 2026 worldwide to draw attention of the world to the tragic situation in Sudan. The report is saying: The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) committed crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing during its campaign to seize El Fasher in North Darfur state in Sudan.”
The Amnesty International explained that “We came to Kano because of the importance of the historical ties with Sudan through ancient Trans-Saharan trade routes and centuries of Islamic scholarship. Also, Nigeria plays a significant role in African politics.”
” We believe that a stable and peaceful Sudan is vital for the prosperity of Nigeria and Africa in general. I solicit your support for our loud call for an immediate ceasefire and deployment of a peacekeeping force to protect civilians in Sudan.”
The presentation of the reports, saw the delegation from Eastern and Southern Africa regional office of Amnesty International – from Nairobi and Johannesburg in a collaborative work model that show Africans can work together to make the continent better.
He asked why Sudan Matters?, “Sudan is one of the largest African countries in terms of landmass, with great history of cultural and historical significance. It is a country of 51 million people and a prosperous economy.
He added that It was estimated that Sudan has 56 universities offering competitive education that was benefitting international students. Also there between 3 to 7 million Sudanese of Nigerian origin, with roots from Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri.
“But Since the conflict got intense in 2023 at least 3,100 Nigerians returned home from Sudan. The number can be higher. But majority of the 3,100 Nigerians repatriated back home were students.”
Sunusi hints that almost all of them had their education disrupted by the conflict. This is a tragedy. Since the fighting began in 2023, tens of thousands of people have been killed and nearly 14 million people have been displaced.”
Reading the reports of the Amnesty International, a Researcher Abdullahi Hassan said that RISF Forces committed right crimes against humanity that includes Murder, Rapes, Ethnic Cleansing, stealing and destruction of homes.
