Kano State Government Did Not Procuress 630 Trucks Of Fertilizer For 2026 Farming, Commissioner
From Muhammad Kabir Kano
The Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture Dr Danjuma Mahmud clarified reports suggesting that the State has procured 630 Trucks of Fertilizer, insisting that the amount placed was for the whole three years of the Administration.
He said while granting Interviews that, “if you includes what we’re going to distribute in the next couple of weeks to come, and the one that comes to the  state government and have distributed, procured, in some cases jointly with local government, are about 630 trucks of fertilizers.”
The Commissioner notes that there was a time when the Governor, choose on his own to give at least over 60 trucks of fertilizers free to the farmers because we want people to really go back to the farm. We also received support from the federal government of fertilizers from Urea to SSP to NPK.
“So we’ve repaired irrigation facilities whereby we’re able to recover, including bringing back  Kadawa farm into the custody of the state government. What we’ve recovered and repaired is in the region of 1,230 acres of cultivable, irrigatable land across the state. “
The Commissioner hints that they have keyed into federal government provision of seed and fertilizers, while the state government has equally provided, in the last three years, over 623 trucks of fertilizers.
He said in the last one and a half years ago or so about 70 trucks, which was equally given free to our teaming farmers. Some of our projects had some element of infrastructure in it, and luckily enough, we were able to deploy this infrastructure into the rural areas because if you produce, you need to evacuate, either from farm gate to storage facility or farm gate to the market. So we deployed our rural roads.”
The Commissioner explained that they used about 72 kilometers into these areas. And when it comes to vaccination, equally, before our sister ministry came, we came on board in the last three years, we’ve achieved a lot in vaccinating large number of animals. So on seed provision, we’re able to at least introduce, work with some seed companies to provide climate smart, drought resistant seeds that really enhance and very low gestation period, maturity period seeds that greatly enhance productivity.
“So these are some of the things that we’ve achieved, but most importantly, I’m sure in the next couple of weeks, it will be a talk of town when we deploy our mechanized farm implements that the state has really aggregate over the last two years from combined harvesters to tractors, to transplanters, to other farm implements, including farm spray machines and small rice mill and even large rice mill that we have now.”
” And again, we have secured a large number of solar irrigation pumps because buying fossil fuel to irrigate, it’s really not cost effective anymore. So we secured a good number of solar irrigation pumps that could be distributed to cooperatives, largely to cooperatives.”
He added that across the state,  the state government collaborating with Local Governments on projects, were able to build what has never been constructed, what we don’t have even anywhere in this country because there is no state that has 20 milk collection centers more than milk collection centers with facilities like storage facilities, solar, among others, so that our Fulani compatriots will be able to produce their milk in a very hygienic way and for the up takers to come and pick it in a very profitable way.
“So in a nutshell, this is part of what we’ve done, but one significant thing that should not escape my mind is apart from bringing back some irrigated sites, clearing some, repairing some, recovering some, we have embarked on, excellently, the governor has now embarked on the most ambitious irrigation dam project in the state.
“The projects is a two kilometer length dam that could carry up to three billion cubic liters of water and that could irrigate about 1,250 channelized irrigatable land in Kiru local government called, in a place called Dansoshiya   this is a very, very big achievement because in the state now, there is no irrigation facility that is half the size or capacity of this very dam irrigation facility I’m talking about. Work has really reached advanced stage in that regard and even then, his excellency, the governor, approved for the ministry to have a connected route that will allow for evacuation of farm produce within the same irrigation facility.”
He added, “that route is about 14 kilometer length and this is equally connected with a small irrigation dams project, which we now have 11 local governments with small earth dam and small irrigation, channelized irrigation site. None of this site is less than 150 acres and combined irrigation capacity of this 11 dams, ranging from Albasu to Shanono to Gari to Dawakin kudu to Rogo, Ajingi, Rogo, you know, to Bichi. These combined irrigation capabilities of these small earth dams is around 1,200 acres.
Dr Danjuma Muhmud, hints that in some cases, we’ve now got a new design that will even allow us to have about 2,000 acre of irrigatable land within the villages here. In food security aspect the state government has employed an independent assessor, which assists the ministry’s achievement to be in the region of 80%. It’s not our own making.
“It’s an independent assessor that assists using the milestone and the benchmark. So, and the key performance indicators of the AQI development blueprint, we are just to have achieved 80% in that regard.
