Main Canal Breaking: River Basin Accuses Some Farmers Of Sabotaging Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on Food Security

The Management of Hadejia Jammaare River Basin, has accused some Farmers in Miga Local Government of Jigawa State, for breaking the Basin main Canal that transport water to downstream users from Kano up to the boarder of its catchment areas in Jigawa state that terminates at Chad River Basin in Yobe State, Sabotaging President Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda on Food Security.

Speaking the Managing Director of the Hadejia Jammaare River Basin, Rabiu Suleiman, said that some unpatriotic farmers intentionally broke the main Canal to siphon water to their Farmland which has caused serious damages to the main Canal threatening the President Tinubu Food Security initiative.

He said already they are collaborating with Security Agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and made them to face the consequences of their actions in the Court of law.

Rabiu Suleiman, explained that the main Canal takes water from Kano Tiga River to a distance of about 350 Kilometers, but the Criminals breached the canals at about 170 kilometers in Miga Local Government area of Jigawa State.

“The Criminal acts has caused the destruction of over 100 Hectares of farmland which was flooded by the reckless actions thereby rendering Farmers and their farm produce useless”.

“We are taking legal actions against the perpetrators, already we are working in tandem with Security agencies to apprehend those behind the acts and made them to face the punishment of their actions”.

The Managing Director, however said that for now they working hard to repair the Canal and block the breached are to stop the diversion into the farmlands to save the farmlands and allow smooth movement of the water to its destination at Hadejia Barrage and further downstream.
