A coalition of clerics and Islamic organisations in Kano State has urged politicians and their supporters to conduct political activities peacefully and avoid actions capable of causing tension in the state.
The coalition, in a statement issued on Wednesday, expressed concern over rising political rhetoric and warned against the use of abusive language and acts that could threaten peace and stability.
It called on political actors to focus on policies and programmes that would improve the lives of the people rather than engaging in divisive politics.
The group also appealed to youths not to allow themselves to be used as tools for violence or unrest during political activities.
According to the statement, Kano has a long-standing reputation for peaceful coexistence, stressing that all stakeholders must work together to preserve harmony and unity in the state.
The coalition further commended security agencies and community leaders for their efforts in maintaining peace and order.
The statement was signed by the coalition’s secretary, Dr Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa.
