Hundreds of eligible voters turned out for the two-day Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise held at the Federal College of Agriculture, Hotoro, Kano, in another major boost to the ongoing statewide voter mobilisation campaign.
Chairman of the Labour Sub-Committee of the Kano State Task Force Committee on Voter Registration, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, who supervised the exercise, expressed delight at the impressive turnout, particularly the large number of elderly citizens who obtained their voter cards for the very first time.
He described the development as a significant milestone in the collective effort to expand democratic participation and ensure that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
According to Comrade Ibrahim, the exercise recorded remarkable success, attracting workers from both the public and private sectors, staff and students of the Federal College of Agriculture, as well as members of the surrounding communities.
He commended the professionalism, efficiency and commitment displayed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that their conduct contributed immensely to the smooth and successful conduct of the registration exercise.
Comrade Ibrahim also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdu A. Zango, for his support, which he said made the successful deployment of INEC officials possible through the leadership and coordination of the Kano State Task Force Committee on Voter Registration under the chairmanship of Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Wa,iya
He further thanked the Provost of the Federal College of Agriculture, Hotoro, Dr. Salisu Salisu, and the management and staff of the institution for providing a conducive environment that ensured the success of the exercise.
While urging eligible citizens who are yet to register not to miss the opportunity, Comrade Ibrahim reminded the public that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise will close on 10 July, encouraging prospective registrants to visit the nearest INEC Local Government office before the deadline.
He also praised the outstanding contributions of the student volunteers who assisted prospective registrants with the online pre-registration process, describing their dedication as exemplary and worthy of emulation by other young people.
The Labour Sub-Committee chairman equally acknowledged the commitment of the committee’s Secretary, Comrade Usman Bello, and Malam Aliyu Sani of the Task Force Secretariat, whose innovative initiatives and effective coordination contributed significantly to the seamless execution of the programme.
Comrade Ibrahim reaffirmed the Labour Sub-Committee’s commitment to sustaining voter education and civic engagement beyond the close of the registration exercise. He said the committee would intensify awareness campaigns across workplaces and communities to encourage registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in future elections.
He stressed that widespread voter registration, PVC collection and active participation in elections remain the foundation for strengthening democracy and ensuring that the voices of citizens are reflected in governance.
