Fertilizer Distribution: Governor Yusuf Shun State Own Anti Graft Body Seek EFCC, ICPC Help’s

In what appears total lost of confidence in the strength and capability of his owned Anti Corruption State Body, Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to monitor the distribution of the 15 Truck’s of subsidised fertilizer across the 44 Local Governments.
The Governor, who gave the directive during the flag-off of the distribution of 150 truckloads of subsidised fertilizer to farmers across the 44 local government areas of the state, would have uses the State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission to monitor the Distribution, but he completely shunned them and goes for EFCC and ICPC to do the Jobs.
Governor Yusuf said the involvement of the anti-graft agencies was intended to guarantee that the fertilizer reaches genuine farmers and to eliminate diversion, hoarding and other sharp practices, according to a statement issued by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa spokesperson to the Governor, Friday.
He urged the 44 local government chairmen to conduct the exercise with honesty, fairness and accountability, noting that the intervention is aimed at reducing the cost of farming, increasing agricultural productivity and strengthening food security.
The Governor warned that anyone found diverting the fertilizer or frustrating the programme would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, describing agriculture as a key driver of Kano State’s economy.
