Custom Intercept 48 Endangered Wildlife Species.. Generate N88.9Bn In 8Months

The Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, has made a breakthrough in the biggest interception of 48 Endangered wildlife species, this is even as they generated within 8 Months a Revenue of N88,925,099,742.70.
Speaking while parading the intercepted Wildlife Species and other items, the Command Controller UU Adamu, said the Endangered Wildlife Species were intercepted on 25 August, 2026, comprising, of 15 primates including Chimpanzees, Gorillas and Bush Babies.
Others according to him are 4 wild cats such as Civet and Caracal Wild Cats, 25 wild birds such as Greater Boosters, and Rock Fowls, 2 Albino Crocodiles and a Honey Badger.
He said the suspects were arrested in connection with the interception of endangered wildlife species. They have been handed over to the Special Wildlife Office of the NCS Headquarters for further action.
“This is believed to be the largest and most diverse single seizure of wildlife ever recorded in the history of the Nigeria Customs Service and probably the West African Sub Region. This interception underscores the scale and gravity of the trafficking attempt. It also shows the Command’s intensified resolve to protect our biodiversity and uphold obligations under international conventions and section 55(1)(i) of the NCS Act 2023”.
Speaking on Revenue generation, the Controller recalled that the Command in the last half year generated the sum of 63,078,655,523.44 billion Naira in revenue, adding that the Command’s year-to-date revenue generation currently stands at 88,925,099,742.70 billion Naira, showing a variance of about 25 billion Naira from July, 2026 to date.
“It is therefore important to note that the month of July recorded the highest monthly collection in the history of the Command with over 14 billion Naira generated.”
On enforcement he said, while revenue generation remains a critical responsibility of the Nigeria Customs Service, their mandate goes beyond revenue collection. The Service is equally responsible for regulating the movement of goods across Nigeria’s borders while ensuring compliance with extant laws and regulations.
“In line with this mandate and the Service’s commitment to combating smuggling and protecting Nigeria’s economy, public health, national security and environment. The Command has sustained robust enforcement operations across its area of responsibility.
Adding that these efforts resulted in significant interceptions, detentions and seizures of prohibited, restricted, and controlled items. Among the notable seizures and detentions recorded by the Command are, Food And Personal-Care Productsa, 1,491 cartons of smuggled foreign spaghetti with DPV of 38,740,131.00 million Naira.
Others are 2,928 packs of smuggled foreign Macaroni with DPV of 280,734,079 million Naira. These violates section 233 of the NCS Act 2023.c. 35 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice including the mean of conveyance with DPV of 8,143,379.00 million Naira.d.
Other arrest are 19 bags of expired smuggled foreign parboiled rice of different brands including the mean of conveyance with DPV of 475,000 thousand Naira. e. 3,000 jerry cans of foreign refined and packaged vegetable oil with DPV of 431,852,129 million Naira, falling under schedule 3 of the CET 2022 to 2027.
“514 cartons of different brands of soaps with DPV of 38,067,999 million Naira.7. Trucks And Vehicles8 units of suspected diverted transit truck heads were intercepted in violation of section 233 of the NCS Act 2023 with DPV of 300,905,856 million Naira Only.
He than warned that for those engaged in legitimate trade, our message is clear: compliance remains the most effective way of conducting business without unnecessary interruption. To individuals and businesses contemplating the use of illicit channels, I equally wish to be clear that the Command will continue to deploy its available resources to detect and enforce against activities that violate Customs laws.
