61 Inmates Memorize Quran In Kano Correctional Center

The Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, Kano State Command, has recorded another remarkable milestone in its inmate rehabilitation drive as *61 inmates* of the *Medium Security Custodial Centre, MSCC, Kurmawa, Kano*, successfully completed the memorization and recitation of the *Holy Qur’an*.
The according to the Public Relations Officer, Misbahu Lawan Kofar Nassarwa said the achievement reflects the Service’s unwavering commitment to the *reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration* of inmates in line with the provisions of the *Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019*.
The graduating inmates comprised *55 males and 6 females* who demonstrated exceptional dedication and perseverance throughout the programme. Significantly, many of them had little or no prior knowledge of complete Qur’anic recitation before their admission into the custodial centre. Through discipline, commitment, and structured religious instruction, they have now attained full memorization of the Holy Qur’an. This underscores the transformative impact of faith-based rehabilitation programmes within the Service.
In recognition of this outstanding achievement, the *Nigerian Correctional Service* in collaboration with the *Chokali Humanitarian Foundation* provided welfare interventions for the graduating inmates. The Foundation presented each graduate with a comprehensive welfare package, including *new clothing, mattresses, blankets, and financial support* to encourage their continued personal development and successful reintegration into society.
The *Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command*Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene fsi,commended the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni*, for his visionary leadership and continued directives promoting educational, vocational, and moral development programmes across custodial centres nationwide. He noted that these initiatives are vital in equipping inmates with the knowledge, skills, and values required to become productive and responsible members of society upon their release.
The *Officer-in-Charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kurmawa, DCC Ibrahim Isah Rambo Ibrahim*, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Command and the *Chokali Humanitarian Foundation* for their unwavering support. He described the successful Qur’an completion ceremony as a testament to effective leadership, collaboration, and the Service’s commitment to holistic inmate development.
Also speaking at the event, *Prof. Aliyu Harun* applauded the Command for its sustained efforts in transforming the lives of inmates through meaningful rehabilitation programmes. He emphasized that such initiatives play a significant role in repositioning inmates as responsible and law-abiding citizens.
In her remarks, the *Chairperson of the Kano State Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Hajiya Azumi Namadi Bebeji*, reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to improving inmate welfare. She expressed appreciation to the *Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf*, for his compassion and continued support for inmates across custodial centres in the state.
The *Chairman of the Organising Committee, CSC Mohd Ali Kibiya*, congratulated the 61 graduating inmates on their remarkable accomplishment. He encouraged them to uphold the discipline, moral values, and spiritual growth they had acquired during the programme and urged all inmates to continue praying for lasting peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
The event concluded with special prayers offered by the *Custodial Chaplain, DSC Mohd Alkanawy*, and the *Chief Imam, Imam Nasiru Abdu*, who prayed for the inmates, the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State, and the nation at large.
The District head Dan Ruwatan Kano Alh Ibrahim Ado Bayero presented a Certificate to 61 Inmates in the event.
The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, remains steadfast in its mandate to reform, rehabilitate, and reintegrate inmates through education, vocational training, moral guidance, and faith-based programmes, thereby promoting public safety and contributing to national development.
