A former member of the House of Representatives for Bichi Federal Constituency, Hon. Mahmoud Baba Bichi, has declared his intention to contest the Kano North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bichi made the declaration during a visit to the Kano State secretariat of the party, where he formally notified the leadership of his ambition.

He said he had already obtained the party’s nomination form at the APC national headquarters in Abuja in line with electoral guidelines, explaining that time constraints compelled him to complete the process at the national level before informing the state chapter.
“I remain loyal to the APC, and my aspiration is fully within the party,” he said.
The former lawmaker urged the party leadership to consider his bid, noting that Bichi, Dawakin Tofa and Dambatta local government areas in Kano North have not produced a senator since the return of democracy in 1999.
He added that it was time for the party to field a candidate from other local governments in the district, instead of repeatedly selecting candidates from Kabo Local Government Area.
Responding, the APC State Secretary, Prof. Yusuf Muhammad Sabo, who spoke on behalf of the State Chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, commended Bichi for formally informing the party of his intention.
He assured that the party would ensure fairness to all aspirants in the selection process.
